By far the best app for climbing — and the smartest way to train for it
Lattice Training is exactly the kind of app climbers have been waiting for: thoughtful, well-designed and clearly built by people who understand climbing and training. The UI is clean and intuitive, the training concept is smart (progressive, varied and easy to follow), and the fact that Lattice makes the app available to customers of its course subscriptions (including A Climber’s Guide to Training) at no extra cost is a very generous touch.
That said, it isn’t perfect. Small bugs pop up from time to time and I noticed some exercises and whole workouts appear more than once. The workout library is already large and useful, but it could be even richer — more unique exercises and a bigger database would take the app from great to exceptional. One practical improvement: a dedicated “Lattice Choice” section that contains only the exercises/workouts Lattice recommends for a climber’s current level (clearly filtered by ability). Another highly useful feature would be the ability for users to build their own custom workouts by combining existing exercises — that would make the app far more flexible for tailored training sessions. With that curated list, a custom-workout builder, and some deduplication, the app would become far easier to navigate and even more powerful for focused progress.
Pros
•Excellent design and user experience.
•Training philosophy and programming feel expert-level and practical.
•App access included for customers of Lattice’s course subscriptions — a generous perk.
Cons
•Occasional small bugs.
•Duplicate exercises/workouts clutter the library.
•Database could be larger and more varied.
•No built-in custom-workout builder yet.
Bottom line: Lattice Training already delivers huge value, especially for subscribers to Lattice’s course offerings. If they iron out the bugs, clean up duplicates, add a curated “Lattice Choice” area tailored to each level, and let users combine exercises into their own workouts, the app on its own would easily be worth more than the current bundle. Highly recommended for any serious climber who wants a practical, well-crafted training tool.
