You can't set up, as you could before, your own areas of interest, the app is UNSEARCHABLE, so you have to rely on their topic headings, often random seeming or days old. Endless sports stories crowd out news that is deemed important on other news sites, and indeed on the BBC's websites. One wonders if these negative “improvements” are a deliberate attempt to run this app down, for some reason? When stories in this app are less up to date than those in yesterday’s newspapers, you have to wonder why. The BBC is second to none in its news coverage, so why does this app give the opposite impression?

To replace „My News“ makes the app absolutely useless for me. I don‘t want to scroll through dozens of articles irrelevant to me to get to what I want to know about. And I don‘t need „most watched“ as I like to form my own opinion unbiased by sensation seeking idiots who only read what matches their opinion.

With earlier versions, this was one of my most favourite news apps and I used it every day. But now, the new version it’s absolutely terrible! I could previously select the topics I was interested in and now this function has gone. Why? All I get now are a seemingly random selection of news items, most of which I’m not interested in. I have to scroll for ages to try and find items that I want and then still not find them! Dear responsible people at the BBC ….. what are you thinking about? Why did you change the app for a version that’s worse? My request … please issue a new version of the app that would be enjoyable to use again. Judging by the dozens of other similar criticisms about the new version of your app, it seems that I am not alone with my request. Had I known how awful the upgrade would be, I would never have upgraded it!

I’ve been using the BBC news app for years, every day. I’m so disappointed by the latest update. The content is so restricted, and I can’t customise what I see. I’m not interested in golf or US / Canada, but very much in UK news and special topics such as health or climate change. Sorry but I find the IOS app has gotten worse, As an British person living abroad it’s now impossible to find anything relevant to Wales as the poor layout demonstrates. Please by all means update security issues etc but I wish the layout was the same as approximately a year ago. I could put into the top menu all countries and topics I was interested in and now I cannot do this anymore. There is a well known saying, “If it’s not broken then it don’t need fixing”or “Leave well alone”, really disappointed.

BBC News app was my go to news app. Since the new update and layout was introduced, I find the app bland and irrelevant for me and I will search for another one. The great thing before the layout change was the possibility to customise the news topics based on your interest while also having an overview about current news. I was able to quickly page through my topic and see if something has happened. Now I need to scroll through predefined topic lists, that are very general and I can’t find more specialised articles. I am also sad to see the category ‘latest news’ disappear. If you are an avid reader of the bbc app it was nice to sea if any new articles had appeared. Please rethink your design and incorporate some of the old features.

Solid news app but usability is getting worse

Im general the app is solid (content, stability etc)
On the technical side the app is getting worse over time and this affects usability:
Many of the problems stem from the fact that it’s just a web view around an almost normal webpage.
* cookie/consent banners appear again and again no matter what you select (why not manage tracking consent in the app itself?)
* some videos do not play their sound while in app (works fine on website). This also affects some ads
* some ads appear on top of paragraphs instead of in-between - makes it impossible to read all text
* offline usage used to be much better (e.g. for getting on a plane)

Great app giving a lot of relevant and in-depth information on what's going on in the UK and around the world.
One of the main changes listed for the latest update (version 2022 3.0) was that it would make advertisements more personalised, which is why I chose to ignore it (I don't want more personalised advertisements, but none at all, where's the setting for that?).
Now I looked ad the update description again and by what I understand, it turns out that I wasn't the only one who didn't go for said update and they changed the description, so that it is really not clear any longer, that the increased personalisation of advertisements was (likely) the main reason for it [advertisements that take up so much space, by the way, that one can't help feeling them being forced down one‘s throat].
Such behavior simply leaves the bitter aftertaste of (doubtful) intentions willingly concealed, which is something I am really attached to expressing my rejection for, this is but shabby, imho.
Now please don't make an update 3.1 including the "improvements" from 3.0 without listing them, but give us the full choice of what we want and what not!

The smart-phone format is clear and user-friendly.

The app works generally well. It is sometimes irritating to filter through the editorial garbage and only read the hard news. You get a good enough objective understanding of what’s going on once you are in the habit of skipping the editorial parts.
They have recently begun sending push notifications on social justice topics instead of just breaking news. I find this especially obnoxious and have turned off the notifications because of it. I understand every news organization has their political bias, but sending trashy notifications to reinforce the organization’s political positions is a bit much.
Thanks for the free news though.

I refuse to use the App until that is changed.
Shame really because the rest was great and it was my main news source!
