This one I got for free some time ago and it was ‘sleeping’ in my iBook library for quite a while. Yesterday I went to the doc and I had to wait for hours. As I was browsing through all the book titles on my iPhone I found this one and I started to read.

To be honest, it was a real positive surprise for me. What started a little on the ‘old mans wet dream’ - road, moved to a story about loss, companionship and how hard it is to find a partner later in life, because we all bring so much baggage to the table.

I’m sure the fact, that the story resonated with me goes back to where I am in my own life. I’m at the same age than Mike the protagonist, I’m a widower who did care for his ill wife for quite a while before she passed away, I am overweight and undertrained and I can spell out every letter of the word loneliness.

I finished the book yesterday evening at home and bought the follow up right away.

Sure, there where some length in the story, but I am at the age where I know that life does have it’s length too. I am curious how it’s going on for Patience and Mike.

Angenehm lesbar, mit abwechslungsreicher Handlung. Hier und da etwas lang gezogen, im Ganzen jedoch unterhaltsam.

Fesselnde und oft witzige Story über einen alternden Witwer, der sich entschliesst einen weiblichen Roboter zu kaufen. Designed ist sie nach seinen Wünschen und Vorgaben. Als "SIE" schliesslich an Ihn ausgeliefert wird, erfüllen sich alle seine Erwartungen und mehr noch. Sie entpuppt sich als perfekte Partnerin und übernimmt mehr und mehr Verantwortung für Ihn, sorgt sich um Finanzielles und um sein gesundheitliches Wohlergehen.

This is among the poorest pieces of literature I have ever come across. What appears to be a pretty good idea in the beginning turns out to be a very boring poorly worked out story. In this probably partly autobiografic text the author spends 80% of the wording about what the robot is wearing and what the main protagonist is eating. Really nothing else happens apart from a short episode that comes up completely unmotivated.

Ich muss sagen ich bin begeistert! Das buch ist sehr interessant, spannend und obgleich es in englischer Sprache geschrieben worden ist, einfach zu verstehen.

Good reading that made me want to finish the book quickly. The ending came a bit as a surprise. The story is open enough for a sequel.

Though it wasn't my favourite, the book was quite cute. The ending is sweet and the story isn't too kitsch.

Nicely written, albeit sometimes a bit cliché; and the ending was quite sudden and unexpected.
