Like a lot of people, I grew up with the NOW compilations. One of the best things about them was that you always managed to discover new songs in addition to playing all your favourites over and over. It’s for this reason that I think this is such a great collection – they could have easily just gone with the biggest hit from many of the megastars featured on this album but have instead settled on some slightly more left-field choices such as ABBA’s ‘The Day Before You Came’, Donna Summer’s ‘State of Independence’ or ‘Woman in Chains’ by Tears for Fears. Still, the majority of the songs here are massive anthems, which is only fitting, given that the word ‘Timeless’ is in the title. That word is perhaps a double-edged sword as you’ll never please everyone, no matter what list of songs you settle on! As far as I’m concerned, getting 78 tracks that are yours to own and span seven decades for under a tenner is incredible value.
