Bring back the old days!

Updated review. I’ve been listening to back to old episodes, man this used to be a great podcast! It’s still good, just not like the old days.
This is common with all true crime podcasts, I feel. Start off great, get some traction, grow, get lost in the celebrity of it all.
If you’re new here, scroll back to the beginning to hear the riffing and impromptu conversations of two friends chatting about things they’re passionate about. Back then they were normal working people with regular jobs and mortgages etc, and very relatable lives. More recently it’s extremely scripted, not written in their own words and the heart has gone out of it. Now it’s two famous people reading a script and trying to get it done asap so they can later out of there. I’m happy for them and their huge success, but also a little bummed that this thing grew so big that it spoiled.
A bit harsh, but how I feel just now. Sorry. SSDGM

Love the podcast, I’ve listened to every episode, probably twice! Just so you know, I assume you two represent Americans in general so half the time I’m studying how Americans are - they seriously don’t know how pancakes are made from scratch! 😅
On a serious note, I’ve always appreciated how you guys fight for the rights of different groups and support important causes and bring up subjects that are relevant and try to do everything with as much respect for the people you’re discussing as possible. However, I wonder how Israel with USA as a supporter can be murdering thousands of innocent Palestinians without hearing a word on the podcast? A genocide is live on instagram and no need to mention it? I know Georgia is Jewish and her parents spent time in Israel I believe - but even the more reason to show how this has nothing to do with Jews or the Jewish religion. It’s a genocide run by very evil and powerful people and executed by brainwashed humans that make fun of their victims and dance on the ruins of their homes. Children and mothers and fathers in the rubble. Grandparents.
I know you guys can do better, I’d love for my next lesson on Americanism being that they’re not all brainwashed to believe this is something other than genocide and war

Loved both stories but the Claudette Colvin one resonated. So important that Karen recognised the colourism at play in the reason why Rosa Parks received more attention and the need for the ‘perfect victim’ in order for the movement to gain traction. Well done ladies 👏🏼

I don’t get it. A perfect formula. And then giving your fans less. One story a week. Why??? It makes no sense to me. Come back with what made you great. I get evolving. And to be on this journey from the start has been wonderful. We heard you evolve and perhaps this is a low patch. I still wait each week and then I’m desperately disappointed to hear the formula that’s been deduced to ticking boxes. There’s still magic, just a lot less. Just heard episode 90. It’s classic riffing and banter. Love that!

This is honestly the most hysterical thing I’ve heard! thought I was weird for liking murder and death. Then I found this… the lack of facts just makes it more interesting and funny! keep up the good work girls! P.S did anyone else think Georgia’s voice was Karen’s and the opposite?

Long time listener and can’t recommend this podcast enough. It’s my favourite! Karen and Georgia are so funny, while still being respectful about the stories they are telling. Literally feel like you’re listening to your sisters/ aunties/ mates having a bit crack on. Really interesting stories every episode and not always about a straight forward murder. I enjoy hearing about their life updates, about their pets, what podcasts their listening to and tv to watch, as well as touching on mental health and being so open and honest.

It’s horrifying that two people will try and make a living out of laughing and making jokes over other people’s tragedy. What has happened to the world? The tragedies of others and their deaths is not entertainment. Utterly shameful and disgusting and everyone who works in this show should be embarrassed with themselves.
Of course it’s always entitled white women who feel as though they have the right to do something like this

Find out how to become a Murderino? Discover what SSDGM stands for? It’s a book! It’s a live show? It’s a source of positivity for females and men who respect them.(the use of binary identities for example only) Funny supportive and positive in the face of tragic events. All should bare witness and care about the victims of some of the most notorious crimes on earth. Join the phenomenal my favourite murder podcast. Like true crime have a sense of humour and want to learn to stay safe. Then find a home here. Thought provoking, funny. But unfortunately tragic. Learn from the tragic events of others. Be uplifted by survivors. Support from fellow listeners. Give it a try and become a Murderino. Don’t miss out on unique phenomena.

I am a loyal listener since the start but I cannot stand the dubbed episodes. I love Karen and Georgia but I cannot listen to them until they stop it’s so off putting and jarring, stops the flow of the story and it puts me off and I got lost in the story. Won’t be listening until dubbed episodes stop, not sure where these came from, sorry ladies.

Aw, I’m sad that a pod that used to be funny and meandering is now like listening to two awkward teenagers reading out their book report in class. Their other successes have sacrificed the quality and charm of their podcast, which is understandable but a shame. I’m just gonna stick to Karen’s other podcast Do You Need A Ride that is still as conversational and improvised as ever.

This new dubbed format needs to disappear soon - it is incredibly jarring. Whilst I appreciate your concern for younger listeners, the audio does not flow well and is actually very jarring. The flow disappears. Another sad knife in this, once incredible, podcast’s sharp demise.

I have listened to mfm for years now. And I love it. Karen and Georgia are funny honest and really care about how the world is. They donate regularly to important causes. If they did a podcast where they just talked about supermarket shopping I would listen. You get to learn about murder, and a range of other topics from tv shows to self help. Would highly recommend. Love them

Too self-conscious

I still love this show but, as others have pointed out, it has transitioned from something really charismatic/ organic to a formulaic and slightly self-conscious format. Maybe that’s inevitable with the massive amount of attention the show now gets.
The presenters used to ‘riff’ (which they are amazing at), but now read from sheets provided by researchers; they’re unapologetic about this and reference their scripts all the time.
Secondly, the social purpose/ political conscience of the show is so dominant it hardly makes it enjoyable listening.
Although I’m pretty sure the majority of listeners would concur with the presenters’ concerns and affiliate causes (and I absolutely applaud their donations to charity etc), I think people listen to podcasts to distract themselves.
Episodes about medical developments/ quirky historical characters feel like guilty efforts to ‘make up for’ the more traditional true crime stories, which can of course come across as prurient. I understand that, but those are the stories true crime aficionados are actually interested in.

Shocking lack of research

I found this podcast after it was mentioned on wine and crime and boy am I disappointed. This podcast is a testament to why regular people shouldn’t report on crimes. There was absolutely zero due diligence. , on the episode about Paul and Karla holmoka. They didn’t know where these crimes were based, they laughed about it being either Toronto or Montreal and then never clarified. A simple google search would have given them the answer. They also didn't understand if one of the victims was intentional or accidental and didn’t care to research or clarify (Tammy holmoka) they also didn’t go into depth about Karla holmoka’s legendary defence deal. It’s notorious in Canadian history. She was a disgusting criminal who played a massive part in the crimes. All of this info is public and easily accessed. I work in the legal field, but this is all super easy info to find. The way they speak as if they know things on this specific case is disgusting. The way they confidently answer each others questions as if they are experts (they aren’t) makes me feel really sad. For the audiences they have why aren’t they doing proper research and telling the entire story. This podcast is putting me off true crime. But maybe due to the nature of what it is, I should have been off it a long time ago. Civilians have no legal knowledge. Why are they speaking as experts.

Reading through the comments and people love to COMPLAIN can’t you enjoy what they put out it’s GREAT and every podcast will have adverts, have opinions you don’t like, and will probably do interviews to get themselves promotion if you don’t like those SKIP EM
This podcast is GREAT both minisodes murder episodes
Ignore all the negative reviews as they don’t really affect how the podcast is! Enjoy it for what it is, if you don’t like something scroll or skip the episode

I really really really loved this podcast (and still do in so many ways), but lately I feel as though so many episodes are interviews with other people and/or shortened/only one story that I wonder if the love the presenters once had has gone? I would so prefer it if they took a break as opposed to posting episodes that feel so far away from the origins of the show. The mini-sodes remain SO wonderful.

My absolute favourite version of this show is when both Georgia and Karen tell each other a murder. I feel cheated when only one of them tells the other a murder in an episode and I feel especially cheated when the episode is an interview with some Exactly Right podcast host that has nothing to do with murder. These Thursday episodes where that happens feels like a true waste of an hour of listening. Have they run out of ideas? Are they bored with this podcast? Things don’t seem to be as they were and maybe it’s signalling the end which is such a shame because the original format of this show is truly epic.

This is a begrudging 2 star because I LOVE this podcast and I love Karen & Georgia. They have got me through some tough times and I’ve listened to every episode up until 2021 at least twice.
BUT, I echo other comments. I don’t care about the random people being interviewed these days and the “filler” episodes. I would be very surprised if anyone prefers these episodes to the usual format.
I know it’s their podcast, their decisions - can do what they want! But I’m posting because I think podcasters really care about reviews so I wanted to get my voice heard.

I found this podcast during covid and felt like I’d found some like minded friends to keep me company during lockdown. I’ve listened back to almost every episode as I work from home and they’re great company! But… the new Thursday episodes have been awful. Replays of shows I don’t listen to for a reason, guest interviews that aren’t interesting, a lot more moaning and entitlement… I just don’t get it.

I’ve just been reading recent reviews regarding the comments about the Queen’s death. I am English and a royalist and although I wasn’t thrilled with the comments, we have to remember that we are listening a conversation between 2 people and will not always agree with what is being said. We are all lucky enough to enjoy freedom of speech and as such should respect others options. It’s still the best podcast I have ever heard and would never stop listening because of a comment. Never stop doing what you are doing ladies. Love it!

I have listened religiously for years but have continually been disappointed when each new episode shows up for a good while. It might as well be called “My favorite vanity project, our network (unrelated to true crime)”. I like to hear THESE hosts, not a rotation of other ones! It has strayed very far from the enthusiastic delivery of true crime stories it started out with, feels like they are phoning it in. Promo code very rarely murder now.

To say I’m late to the game is an understatement but started listening to this podcast this week and I’m in love !!!! It’s amazing to hear their conversations which I have my friend and to realise we are not weird we just don’t want to get murdered 😂 tho I made the mistake of listen to episode 8 when walking alone down the wooded lane by my house. The conversation flowed into being approached by strangers and being attacked, I turned around straight away and practical ran home. Love this podcast can’t wait to catch up on every episode.

Only leaving a review after seeing a few negative ones being left recently…
1. I’m English and had a little ‘oh no’ reaction to the comments about the Queen. However the joy of this podcast is built on opinions and different perspectives, didn’t agree but isn’t a reason to stop listening? I’d still be your friend if you shared those opinions in real life, just would maybe avoid the conversation in the future lol.
2. Things evolve. The whole reason this podcast is so popular is because of Karen and Georgia, so I love hearing the chats at the beginning because I’m invested in the hosts as well as the stories, the true crime is almost a bonus at this point (which is always well researched and emphatically told in my opinion)
3. Karen & Georgia are entrepreneurs in this industry. Podcasting hasn’t been popular for too long and they found a gap in the market for MFM. They’ve used this success to build an entire community of podcasts (all of which are free unless you choose for it not to be) so what’s a little advertising here and there? Not every episode or show appeals and that’s fine, I’ll wait until next week. Plus the minisodes are always good and if you say they’re not you’re lying.
SSDGM. Love you guys

I was saddened to hear the hosts discussing the death of Queen Elizabeth 2 in such derogatory terms. This was someone’s mother, grandmother, relative. I’m not a royalist but even I felt disgust at the comments you made. This therefore demonstrates that the hosts so called compassion for peoples feelings and mental health issues are bogus. I can see by other reviews that this has affected many other people in a negative way and this saddens me. Xenophobia in any form is not acceptable. It is on par with racism and sexism, which you are always it seems trying to bring awareness to. Please look at your behaviour and maybe issue an apology or retract that portion of your podcast. There’s a saying ‘if you can be anything, be kind’.
