Emma has really improved. Impressed by the way she puts politicians to task stands no nonsense . She also shows empathy and her soft side when appropriate.

I used to really enjoy woman’s hour, it’s lost it’s sparkle for me. Emma Barnett is a little to hostile an interviewer and looses the humanity somewhere. Of corse a lot of the topics tackled are serious but it’s like listening to a headmistress talk down to people, there’s no connection there.

Jenny & Jane were top notch presenters. Emma Barnet is not. A huge step backwards for the programme. Have now unsubscribed after 10 years of listening.

I have been listening to Woman’s Hour for about 8 years. I have always listened to the podcasts rather than live shows so I am used to skipping parts of the show to fast forward to other bits- now I skip to fast forward Emma Barnett. I feel embarrassed for the guests in the interviews led by Emma. I am surprised that guests are still going on the show as they are often spoken to rudely. It would also be more respectful if Emma Barnett would take the time to pronounce people’s surnames properly. That’s also insulting to her guests. Out of respect , practise pronouncing your guests names rather than renaming them 5 times before you get it right..
Thankfully Anita Rani is there to save the show...

Emma Barnet I am so shocked by your attack on Dr Mike Yeadon that I will no longer be listened to woman’s hour. I thought this was fair reporting but you are all just reading from the same sheet. Shame on you

I enjoy WH when it is a conversation rather than an interview. I don’t enjoy hearing a presenter obviously reading an intro - I miss the older presenters as they seemed so comfortable with us and the guests. It is a great programme.
I hope the Craft Prize comes back and the cooking, sewing etc.
I wish WH could advise the Labour Party on their policy so that it is completely geared to women then their problems will be over!

Not sure what has shifted, my perception or Emma’s style. Anyway I am glad to have stayed tuned to Woman’s Hour as I am now as enjoying it as much as ever. Topics remain varied, guests informed and informative and Emma engaging. Bravo.

Love women’s hour, wish they would give interviewees more time tho!

My mum used to listen to woman’s hour & so do I. At the moment I’m about 6 months behind trying to catch up on the podcasts after months of homeschooling & not being able to listen! I do miss hearing Jenny Murray’s voice. I enjoy the show, but often find they are too time centred, rushing guests off to get to the next item, which can come across rude & uncaring. It would be nice to have some older presenters as the current cohort all seam to be in their 40’s which although I’m am too, does come come rather one dimensional at times.

Great show

Loved the programme but I really miss Jenny and Jane :(
Wish Emma would let her guests actually speak rather than constantly interrupting and giving them such a grilling like they are on trial. Just not necessary.

I originally downloaded it when I was backpacking across Australia after my iPod broke and I needed something to listen to during my long journeys. My Nan has always listened to Radio 4, she introduced the show to me growing up and I always was interested in what I heard so decided to give WH a go and have been obsessed ever since!
I’ve been listening to Woman’s Hour for the past 5 years since my early 20’s. It’s informative and helps me learn about several issues that impacts women and listen to other women’s perspectives. It covers such a broad range of interesting topics. WH turns the most boring chores into a joy :)

I came to realise that I became a reluctant Woman’s Hour listener in 2021 because I just can’t get on with Emma Barnett’s combative, point-scoring interviewing style. Yet every week I’m looking forward to Fridays with Anita Rani. She is personable and “a woman’s woman”. Bring more Anita!

After listening to WH for 15 years without missing an episode. Jane and Jenni were equally fantastic. Since Emma Barnett has taken over, my love of the show has dwindled. I know longer look forward to the latest podcast. Emma is argumentative with guests and talks over them. She lacks credibility and authenticity; her responses to guests are hollow. I’ve stuck with it, but cannot carry on and am unsubscribing today. I’ll be back when Emma leaves.

A good week - with Anita!

I’m sorry to say after listening to WH for many years I no longer enjoy the programme. I do not like Emma’s interviewing style and feel its uncomfortable listening. I realise things/people move on but I especially miss Jane Garvey. Sorry WH. Over and out.

After being a avid listener for decades, and listening to podcasts on my daily dog walk, I am no longer going to tune in, Emma so abrasive in her questioning, plus her questions are longer than the time given for a response. (And, since Jenny left, no-one can pronounce harass and its derivatives) off to listen to Jane and Fortunately.

I’ve enjoyed listening to WH for several years but now find the programme disappointing. Emma’s style is aggressive, argumentative and she frequently interrupts guests. I feel she is not a good fit for WH and would be better suited to a different kind of programme such as Newsnight. However I love Fridays with Anita!

I have been listening since I was in my mid twenties, saw me through many nightfeeds when my babies were born. Unfortunately the new format and Emma’s style leaves me feeling cold, too news-like and too abrasive for me. I’m now 35, I want to like it but I just can’t. Sad face 😥

I am a loyal listener of WH, I know things have to change and Jenni had been there a bit too long. I have enjoyed Emma on other programmes but she is currently far too abrasive and trying too hard to be controversial (a major problem with the media these day) for both the audience and the time of day. She needs to calm down, learn to listen and remember this isn’t LBC.

Back off, Emma!

Why does Emma Garnett have to be so aggressive? Anna-Lise Dodds could have been so much more interesting today if she’d been allowed to finish her response to pretty much any question? I found her obtrusive and rude. Back off Emma, and let your interviewees respond!

Could you spend less time telling us what we will hear and inviting listeners to call/text/email in with warning on network charges etc, and more time actually letting the guests speak?
I am finding the new presenting style so choppy and disjointed it is no longer really worth listening. Sorry

I’ve listened to Woman’s Hour for years and hadn’t always agreed with Jane or Jenni but Emma’s style is off-putting. A person reveals much more in an interview when they feel they are being listened to but Emma constantly interrupts and loses any engagement with that person as well as the listener. Also have to agree with earlier comments on listener feedback-no point asking for it when it is never shared. I will not be listening anymore.

I am 30 and have been listening to WH for around 6 years. It really had opened my world - enabling me to reflect. Jane had such a wonderful interviewing style. I really wanted to like Emma, but I find she lacks analysis and empathy. She had big shoes to fill, so I hope things do start to improve. She treats it like a ‘show’, but it is so much more than that. It really was a gem of a show.

Great listen!

I have listened to Woman’s Hour for several years now and liked Jane Garvey but I think Emma Barnett has done a great job of taking over as presenter. I really like how she interviews people and don’t think she is at all aggressive. Anyone from the government or a political background is usually trying to dodge questions and Emma doesn’t let them off the hook, rightly so! Why should we be expecting a woman to be gentle when interviewing these types of guests? I have always enjoyed the broad subject of topics Woman’s Hour covers and think it is such an essential show that shines a light on important subjects and issues, it is really work listening to whether you are female or male.

I love Women’s Hour but am quite disappointed that there is not a space at the end for listeners feedback to be read out. I feel this is an important space for listeners to have their say.
This also makes the ending very abrupt and cold. I would also like to hear the date and the day of the week to be said on introducing the show. Especially now where a lot of listeners are confined to the home and all days seem the same.
Emma, please be a tad more gentle with your guests.

Seems to have turned into Newsnight 😔

I am 45 and have listened to WH pretty much every day for about 10 years. Jane Garvey was my absolute hero and so I was worried I wouldn’t like the programme so much when Emma Barnett took over as I am not a fan of her interview style. It is worse than I feared. Emma seems to think that she is hosting Newsnight and cross examines the guests on any point. You can feel quite often their bafflement at being invited on a programme to talk about an issue they feel passionately about, only to be aggressively questioned on their stance and undermined. Emma shows no real warmth or empathy towards the guests. I am very sad to be unsubscribing from what was once such a wonderful and empowering programme for women.

I used to enjoy Emma’s programme on Radio 5 and was pleased when I found out she was going to be the new host on Woman’s Hour, however, more often than not I am finding myself switching off the programme. I just can’t bear hearing the way guests are aggressively interviewed, I find it really uncomfortable to listen to and some interviews come across more like interrogations.

Totally dislike the ending of WH. No good byes etc. Very abrupt end. Seems rude and bad mannered to me.
Why does Emna Barnett always say she will get back to listeners emails then only reads one, if that. Really disappointing. Used to love and look forward to WH. Not anymore.

I listened to Emma being extremely rude to a guest, it felt like she had been paid to verbally attack them. I was so upset for the guest that I’m going to unsubscribe from this. Sadly when there’s a time and place for people to speak up about what’s wrong with the world I doubt that’s when Emma would have a voice.

I had to turn off the interview with Camilla because Emma’s interview style is so aggressive! If that’s the only way she can get information out of guests, then it makes for a terrible programme.
There was no warmth or genuine interest from Emma’s part. Camilla held her own and came across very well.

Sadly , like many other reviewers I am finding that Emma’s interviewing style does not sit well on WH. I loved Emma’s R5 show but WH is not a political show and needs a more empathic approach. I am finding that Emma is too adversarial and does not listen and give interviewees space and time to answer the questions.
I have been a daily listener of WH for 12 years but sadly I’m listening less and less since Jane left.

Really enjoying Emma’s style and approach to women’s hour. Too often interviewees are allowed to spout nonsense and not get called out on it. Emma’s technique is refreshing and a much needed shake up, on a show I previously wouldn’t have considered listening to. Keep up the good work.

I enjoy Emma’s interview style greatly and it is a refreshing change. Im a 29 year old woman and have never enjoyed women’s hour so much since Emma joined. She is a relatable voice - a modern woman and she speaks with warmth and intelligence. She has the most eloquent, level headed and appropriately probing interview style that I’ve heard for a while.

I’ve been an avid podcast listener to Woman’s Hour for years. But I am getting put/ angry by Emma’s style. It’s like a lot of BBC news these days either passive aggressive or plain aggressive and digging and digging when they are not going to say anything. There are political programmes for this. Not WH. Please use a more coaching style with your guests, putting them at easy, like previous presenters to get your answers otherwise you will not only put off guests but this (and I a suspect other) listener as well

Sorry but I am not a fan of Emma the new presenter and have decided after listening to most of January to delete Woman’s Hour from my pod cast listening - I have listened to the pod cast everyday for more than 5 years but whilst I feel I have given it the benefit of doubt I don’t like the argumentative and over taking style - so it’s goodbye from me ( maybe at 54 I’m one of those listeners you are happy to loose)

Have been an avid listening for years but have stopped as sadly find Emma’s approach (apparently trying to copy Janes approach) fails and instead comes across as self involved, undermining and frankly, rude. We are women, embracing the softness as well as empathy is powerful and completely lacking in her approach. I think she would make a great commentator for something, but sadly she’s not a great conversationalist.
