Matt Baker MBE

Länge: 1:02:49
One of the nation’s best loved presenters, Matt Baker, brings his infectious enthusiasm to the podcast this week! By happy accident, this episode is all about midlife pivots and making bold steps towards doing more of the work you love. Listen to hear the unlikely story of how Matt came to be on our screens presenting Blue Peter; how his dyslexia set him up with what he describes as a high tolerance for failure and gave him a sense of fearlessness; how he navigated the role reversal that many of us go through in midlife when our parents begin to need more help and support; and there’s even an old fashioned midlife chat about the thankless task of trying to exercise with a bad back! Head Tutor at The Raymond Blanc Gardening School August Bernstein also joins to talk about making the most of your green spaces, and how you can get started on growing your own vegetables with nothing more than a windowsill.

Currently working my way through the podcasts. Your interviewing is just wonderful and creates thought provoking discussion with your guests. Had to start with Anna, Claudia and Davina, just fantastic and funny. Just starting the mid point and this find has couldn’t have come at a more perfect point. Keep up the fantastic work Gabby.

First the good.
The Amol Rajan episode was outstanding. What an honest, emotional and authentic interview. Must say had a tear several times when he was speaking of his father.
And very much enjoyed the Rosie Nixon interview, most particularly the expert - really thought provoking.
Gabby is a much better, more relaxed interviewer when she likes or ‘approves’ her subject’s choices.
The bad.
Her interview with Gary and Emma Neville. Gary has had two very successful careers and a happy and stable home life. However the interview was punctuated with Gabby talking over Gary with snarky comments about his food choices and the way he chooses to live his life.
Do get the impression that Gabby struggles with anyone making choices in their life that her exhausting sounding perfectionism would struggle to accept.

I don’t listen to this show, so I’m a little unclear why I have to listen to HER sponsorship slots as well as the sponsorship slots for the shows I do choose to listen to. Don’t like adverts at all, but accept them as a necessary evil to pay for the show I’m listening to, not someone else’s.

Oh Gabby, I have listened to every one of your podcast, your interviewing skills are first class & your guests have such interesting stories to share. I had a break for four weeks & last night came back to catch up where I left off which was the Ed & Lois Jackson podcast!! I am speechless! What a couple! What a beautiful guy Ed is. His determination along with the LOVE & support from his wife & his family & friends has made him the man he is today. Thank you so much to the three out you for bringing this wonderful heart warming story to our attention. The good that is coming out of Ed’s tragic accident is just heaven sent. Thank you once again for keeping me company. 🙌

This is generally a great podcast and I look forward to listening but I was a bit surprised at Davinia Taylor as a guest choice. Extremely questionable health advice from an unqualified source with (of course) something to sell. Apart from that, love it!

I love Gabby and some of her guests are spectacular. I’ll-advised to give pseudo-scientific influencers a platform on such a well- respected person’s podcast. Davinia Taylor is, perhaps, well meaning but not using peer-reviewed, scientific research is dangerous. Poor due diligence

In todays world of celebrities, privileged and influencers etc ….I was really pleasantly surprised how confident, honest and grounded both Lois and Reuben came across on each of their episodes.
Massive kudos to both Gabby and Kenny for achieving this - loved hearing from Kenny too …..sounds like a fun. open, well balanced , inspirational family.

Blimey, what a combination of passive aggression, overt control, and apparently family which talks about everything…
Gabby is SO driven, competitive and relentlessly “right” - sometimes it’s exhausting to listen to.
However, I am glad that she is the top of her game. I am glad she is there as a fantastic woman.

Love this podcast. Gabby really engages with her guests & the family editions are enlightening.
BUT. My goodness. The adverts. 15 minutes in: 4th advert, 2 for credit cards. Gabby your lovely velvet voice makes me want to reach for a credit card & book a holiday I can’t afford just to experience the beautiful blue sea.
Has made me score 3 stars instead of 5. I appreciate you’ve got to have the adverts but it’s at a ridiculously high level.

Listening to Midpoint is like a reassuring hug!

Dear Gabby and Kenny
I do enjoy your podcast loved your latest chat, and Kenny’s Scottish accent. You come across as a friendly caring couple.
Be proud of yourselves, you’ve done a marvellous job bringing up your children. It’s not easy paving the way for a different life style, glad your sharing with us your own thoughts.
My two boys are grown men in their thirties, I laughed when you recalled the fridge contents likewise food consumption was constant in our home. Healthy sporty physiques demand nourishment.
Thank you so much for each episode it’s a delight l enjoy. :)

Listened to this podcast and was totally transfixed. Loved the honesty, the actual live time when things were going to happen or after they happen. Listening to Kenny and he reminded me so much if my brilliant, funny loving and supportive husband. I told my husband to listen to this podcast as being of the same age as Kenny it hit a nerve with me. Needless to say he had booked a PSA test for this week!.. and then you go and do a podcast on friendship with Gabbys best friend and it’s just like what my best friend, my husband and me have (not in that weird three way thing you were talking about!) and that’s how it should be!. Two of my favourite pods from all the series so far. Fabulous!

I enjoy listening to Gabby’s podcast. She has interesting guests and asks interesting questions. Good length of podcast. However, I get frustrated when the main interview gets cut in half to make way for an expert. Could the expert not be added at the end?

I do enjoy listening to these, however some episodes and content are more of a general chit-chat and interview that don’t always hit the mid-point subject. Mid-Pointers might be a better title.

Thank you Gabby and Kenny for sharing your very important story on Prostate cancer. As someone who works in urology, those with a platform can make such a difference. Kenny, you spoke with such emotion yet always calm on something that was life changing and involved big decisions. I really hope this pod gets shared amongst men and women to get the message out to get checked. Gabby’s podcast is just great with fascinating people and embraces ageing, we all have the ability to make our life what we want and age doesn’t need to stop that.

The latest in this series is simply outstanding radio and a must listen for all men over 45 and their partners. I have come accustomed to Gabby’s exceptional presenting skills and she delivers, as always. But the astonishing thing about this podcast is the candour and honestly of Kenny. He is simply brilliant openly discussing his emotions, including sensitive subjects for any man to broach. I have immense respect for this couple for sharing this. Simply outstanding. Thank you !
