The Prison Doctor: meet Amanda Brown

The Prison Doctor: meet Amanda Brown

Länge: 59:31
This week on the podcast, the girls are joined by Dr Amanda Brown. Twenty years ago, Amanda was content working as a GP at a quiet, suburban family practice, with many patients she'd seen throughout their entire lives. One day, after a shock meeting, she decided to leave the practice with no idea what was coming next. Out of the blue, she was asked if she wanted to take a shift at a prison. Despite never even thinking doctors worked in prisons, Amanda went on to have the most fulfilling years in her career as a prison doctor. She worked in both men's and women's prisons and talks us through their differences. She also shares why women are being failed in the prison system and how she only ever once had to ring the panic button.
You can purchase Amanda's books The Prison Doctor, Women Inside and The Final Sentence here

Disappointed

I really wanted to love this as I love Alex’s content on Instagram. However, there was far too much unnecessary chat for me and far too much personal content. Not as much focus on the guest as there was on themselves. The questions they asked to the skincare expert were largely personal to them and so I couldn’t relate in the way I was hoping to or take much from the episode.

Love!

This podcast is like having two best friends in your ears. You’ll laugh, learn things about the world, and probably something about yourself. Great interviews, great content and above all Em and Al just seem like great people. Thanks for the podcast pals! X

I’m really hoping this comes across as useful for future eps and not just a criticism- a recent podcast just made me so sad. On an “Is it just me” a listener emailed in about feeling lonely as she doesn’t have a group of friends, I really resonated and was excited to hear the girls thoughts and tips. But instead, they went on to describe how many friends they have and how easily they could make a group. They didn’t get it at all. Those connections just aren’t available for a lot of people and it made me feel even more alone. The “just reach out” made it sound so easy… but reach out to WHO. If you’re alone and feeling segregated from friend groups, you don’t have that someone to reach out to… honestly I’ve just listened to this to writing it when I’m still hurt by it. But hoping that in future, if you don’t have a constructive helpful response, maybe just don’t answer the question.

A bit boring

I am finding as time goes on your just being people pleasers, some of the guests have been great but the waffle at the start is so boring now.

I struggled to listen to this podcast. It touched on topics that are interesting and relevant to me, but I found that the presenting style was just too jarring for me.

I do enjoy the podcast but find some episodes are so Em centric as she manages to turn everything into a story about herself. I also agree with other comments about Em interrupting both guests and Alex which isn’t fair and is frustrating to listen to time after time. Also the audio quality is variable. As I listen in the car there are some moments sometimes I can’t hear. However most of the guests are great and it’s been good to discover new accounts to follow. I really hope the girls (Em particularly) read the reviews on here as people are flagging the same things and nothing is changing!

Love it ❤️

I’ve been listening from the beginning, never missed an episode. I look forward to my commute just to hear these ladies chat ! I just wish there was more.
I love the fact it covers really interesting serious topics but also just funny daily life, even down to Alex wondering if her washing machine has actually cleaned her clothes 😅 I sometimes wonder the same 🤭
Keep going girls, your doing a great job 👏🏻

I’ve never been a podcast listener but I started listening to these lovely ladies about 4 months ago and I never miss an episode now. It makes me laugh so much, it covers such interesting topics, some I’ve never given much thought before, some very relevant to me but all so insightful and helpful. It’s honestly like listening to friends having a chat. Amazing.

Love the pod, Alex and Em’s true friendship shines through. They cover some fantastic topics and the guests are so interesting. I also love the chatty bits but often the sound quality and variability in volume ruins the listening experience which is a shame.

Love everything about this podcast- hosts, lengths, topics covered etc. My one thing is please stop increasing the length of the ads and putting them in the middle of people’s sentences. They’re placed where they don’t make sense and it’s so annoying- nothing on Alex and Em but Acast come on it’s not fair on the gals who work so hard on this!

Be kinder to Alex!!

Most of the time I find this podcast so fun to listen to and I enjoy the friendship feel and laidback-ness, however I find Em to really talk over Alex and sometimes undermine her with passive aggressiveness, it becomes her show, which is a shame because I really love Alex and find her endearing and relatable. Would be nice to hear more of her views and points without being spoken over or criticised. Apart from that, it’s a fun show to listen to.

I love this podcast so much. Em and Alex share and talk about so many topics which I feel many women and girls are also thinking and need guidance on.
I loved the podcast with Keenyah Hill and hearing her experience of Americas Next Top Model. Growing up I LOVED that show but now at 28 I can see the impact; it was supportive to know others including Em and Alex felt the same.
Love the pod!!

I really enjoy the podcast and the subject matter . The issues talked about are all so relevant and informative both Em and Alex have a lovely chatty style that makes the podcast feel very friendly .
However why I gave 3 stars - it’s all subjective but I find that the quality of questions and more specifically how they are asked just lacks a bit of refinement, hopefully this will work itself out as more podcasts are made.
The use of the work like in every sentence/ question asked by Em is quite noticeable. I know this is a regional thing and I feel bad writing it but it makes me cringe( sorry).

Honestly these podcasts are so wholesome and helpful and Em and Alex are the friends that EVERYONE should have. They are intelligent, eloquent, vulnerable, thoughtful people and cover a range of different subjects (both serious and silly) that bring fun and thought provoking conversations to your day.

The Jacqueline Hurst episode BLEW MY MIND!!
I want everyone I know to listen to these podcasts!! I am on a self love journey and the topics they cover are so on point for me

Content within the podcast itself is interesting, good guests on. I like good, bad and awkward, but I’m not struck on the other standard agenda items. However, my issue with the podcast is it’s length. There’s no other podcast I listen to that is so long. Chapters in my audio books are shorter. I’ve missed a few episodes and have 5 hours to catch-up on; which feels like a chore, and I don’t want it to feel like that.

Obsessed!

Love love love the podcast. Very interesting and insightful guests, but they are just very long episodes. So I feel it would benefit from two shorter episodes every week. First could be the ‘chatty catch up’ bits of the episode, and the second could be the guest interview.
Still 5 stars though!

I’m loving this podcast. Especially the podcast with Nelly London. I am a mum of 3 girls and I’d much rather my girls see Nelly walking down the road being confident in her own skin than some of the adverts online or edited influencers on TikTok or the images on magazines when we walk through the shop 💜

Great guests and interesting discussions BUT Em butts in and talks over guests and Alex (her friend) far too often, and then proceeds to speak a lot whilst saying very little. It’s jarring and cringeworthy listening to the guests finding it irritating too (e.g Amber Davies).

Loved the guests and the subject matter. Really interesting and informative. I do find myself fast forwarding the initial random chats. Also notice the amount of time the word “ like” is mentioned. Especially Emma, started fixating on it and counting the amount of times it was said and lost count after 50!! Detracts from the conversation and subject matter. Otherwise thoroughly enjoyable.

Fab interviews but not sure about the rest

My gosh. I’m listening to the International Woman's day podcast episode regarding domestic abuse. And your guest Natasha’s story has brought me to tears. She is so brave. I’m only halfway through the podcast so yet to listen to the other stories by these brave amazing women. Your podcast is so important. As someone who have had friends who have been through domestic abuse it is so important people do not feel alone and know how to get support. It’s also important for us to know how to support them so they feel comfortable talking about what has/is happening without judgement. Well done to all the team of “Should I delete that” for handling this emotive subject matter with sensitivity, empathy and respect. And my heartfelt best wishes to all the women who have shared their stories x

Happy International Women’s Day 💪🏻

Todays episode was amazing! I haven’t experienced the abuse that was described today (can only relate to what most of us as women have had to deal with our whole lives and - side note thanks for actually helping us understand what we actually deal with is not ok and we are valid) but to hear Natasha’s story was heartbreaking and uplifting. So important for us all to understand more and be able to recognise this in our behaviour or behaviour of people around us. I have recommended this podcast to so many friends and family, especially those with teenage daughters. You are honestly both the empowering friends / sisters we all need/needed in our lives. I did miss your usually chatty hilarious segments today and look forward to them next week. ♥️

The first ‘proper’ episode had me hooked. Em & Alex are witty, educated and insightful. Their guests are exceptional.
The podcast is relevant and refreshing. It touches on under discussed topics and addresses difficult subjects in a way that resonates and manages to keep you smiling.

I absolutely love the guest speakers and find it so informative but that first half hour I have to skip each time, it is so dull the two ladies just discussing mundane things and think it could be spent on the guests as it’s why we listen. Disappointed as it has such potential for an hour and a half of fun, entertainment and education but it’s just filled with their random daily happenings
