A Different Kind of Magic - JackTrip and The Online Orchestra

A Different Kind of Magic - JackTrip and The Online Orchestra

Länge: 38:33
In this episode, I look at a story of innovation, perseverance and triumph - how the San Jose Youth Philharmonic Orchestra overcame the challenges of COVID-19. Through a creative application of an existing software to a new problem, a great deal of enthusiasm and resilience from the entire orchestra community, we managed to do what seemed impossible - move our entire orchestra online, and successfully deliver two performances to our community.
Joining me to tell that story are Shoko Michael (Executive Director of the San Jose Youth Symphony), Yair Samet (Conductor of the SJYS Philharmonic Orchestra) and Andrew Forsyth (Product Manager at JackTrip Labs).

What makes music sound the way it does? Why do we feel happy when we listen to this song, or want to dance in a certain way to this piece? What effect does this key, this beat, this chord progression have on the song? What did the artist do to make a song sound the way it does? In this podcast, I explore various concepts in music theory, history and such and how they influence the music we listen to. From key signatures to chord progressions to basslines, I try to demystify how these concepts work and how they make their way into the music we listen to.
