Beschreibung

THE HALCYON ARCHIVES features exclusive DJ sessions from "Brooklyn's hub for music 1999 - 2019."  The infamous music lounge/cafe/bar/record store/DJj lounge, one of the first of its kind, and imitated many times since, hosted the top underground and veteran NYC and international DJ talent, a veritable who's who of the global nightlife scene today.
North American Editor of DJ Magazine, BRUCE TANTUM provides a new intro for each episode, giving context and details about these exclusive sessions.  Once a Halcyon regular and former longtime nightlife editor of Time Out New York, Bruce gives an inside look at the music and the scene and the many legendary DJs and artists, producers and musicians who graced the booth.
Halcyon opened its doors on 9/9/99 in a small shop on Smith Street, Brooklyn, selling a wide variety of vinyl from dance, jazz, funk, soul, rock, hip-hop, techno, house and beyond.  Functioning much like today's concept store, the original spot not only sold records to working DJs and music heads and hosted nightly events and parties seven days a week, Halcyon also was known for selling mid-century modern furnishings and decor, where customers were able to buy anything with a price tag, including the couches and tables on the floor (when they weren't cleared for full-on house parties).  After five years at the original location and another five in Dumbo, Halcyon hop-scotched around Brooklyln neighborhoods until 2019 when changing times forced it to close the doors for good, putting an end to an unforgettable era in New York nightlife history.
Go back to the roots of the Brooklyn spot that dominated NYC underground nightlife and DJ culture for twenty years on THE HALCYON ARCHIVES, exclusively on jasoncharles.net Podcast Network MUSIC Channel.
