CBG Scenes 1.01 | Kaffee, Kuchen und eine Überraschung

Welcome to the Coffee Break Café!
Länge: 30:31
Join Mark and Thomas at the start of an exciting new story! In this first chapter of Scenes, our latest course for intermediate German learners, we visit Erna’s cosy café by the park, where regular customers and unexpected surprises make each morning unique.
We meet Heinz, a long-time patron known for his punctuality and unwavering routine. Every day, he arrives at exactly 8am for his usual coffee. But today, something is different - Heinz is late, and when he finally walks in, he’s not alone. To Erna’s amazement, he’s brought along a lively Spaniel puppy, a new companion he decided to adopt overnight. As Heinz shares his story, we get a glimpse into his life and the small but meaningful decisions that bring change.
Alongside the story, Mark and Thomas will highlight useful grammar and vocabulary, such as expressions with (sich) besorgen, the use of the present participle, or expressions like von einem Tag auf den nächsten. Their explanations, examples and discussions are perfect for intermediate German learners. If you’re looking for a fun and engaging way to improve your German, don’t miss this first chapter of Scenes!

Best Resource to Learn German

This podcast is incredible and the best resource I’ve found to learn German. I have found it better than a textbook or lessons. It is interesting and excellently structured to learn grammar and vocabulary while being interesting. I moved to Germany to do my PhD and this is how I’ve learnt enough German to live here. I could not recommend this podcast more highly.

Best keep secret...

Without a doubt the best tool for learning the German language (Series 1 - 2) and Isn‘t Thomas just great? Unfortunately, I have to admit that I am not quite keen on the Mag version as way too much English is spoken and I don’t personally find it as challenging as the other Series.

The best podcast to learn German

This is simply the best free podcast to learn (or improve a basic knowledge of) German. Andrea and Mark are great and make language learning enjoyable. I was looking forward to season 3, and I think that at least a transcript of each coffee break magazine lesson should be provided to all users, as it’s really a reading-based course.

Best way for me to soak in both language and culture!

Love this show and how natural it is listening to Mark learn.
I live in Hamburg and this has already started to help me use those bits of German I know, but have been struggling to use out in the wild. Thank you guys!

It REALLY helps

I've been learning German for more than a year with online tools and apps, so listening comprehension is my weakest point.
With coffee break German, in a few weeks of listening to the podcast, I have improved a lot. And it is noticeable, as I can now have street conversations without too many "wie bitte?".

No more complaining about Accusative/Dative :-)

Thank you Coffee Break Team! I found this course shortly before I took my Goethe A2 test. I was trying to do it alone without taking any course, but of course I left it too late to organise my study properly. I then just worked my way through season 1, each episode explained so much I was addicted early on. I got 97% on my A2 and I’m going to book my B1 soon.
I’m working my way through Season 2 now and I’ve just got to the part where you introduce the radio play to sum up what we have learned. Each episode is so challenging and filled with nuggets of info, thanks so much for the work you put in!
I’m thinking about doing the premium version, I can’t see the point of enrolling in a German course when this podcast is covering so much. It suits my style of learning, I love things to be explained :) Vielen Dank!! (And now I know the vielen is written that way because of Old German :))
