Ryan posted on social a letter a customer gave him at his book store. He basically humiliated his anonymous customer instead of allowing the letter to sink in and give him perspective. Ever since then I can’t listen to him or read his books. Such an A hole move. I think Ryan has let his fame fo to his head.

Until I found this podcast! Have you ever listened to one episode of a podcast and before it ended you knew you were going to go all in? This is how I felt and now I’m binging and finding value in every minute - which is something I can’t say about many shows. I imagine we all want to know how to become the best version of ourselves. This podcast informs you and challenges you to do just that. Ryan Holiday is my new hero!

Love this guy, has a great future ahead of him! You can still see his inexperience when he speaks to Rabbi Mordecai, someone who’s experienced so much really shows how far Ryan has to go. I look forward to the growth of this podcast and his books.

You wrote the article yourself… you stated “What we can’t do is give into partisan radicalization, the silly team-sport mentality that has consumed American politics along with many other countries.”
In the last two weeks I’ve listened to two episodes that clearly had “silly team-sport mentality”. I expected a more bi-partisan approach to expressing Stoic values from a leader with so much influence.

Great messages, great host, great pod

Ryan is a modern day philosopher, taking ancient ideals and wisdom and applying them to the world we live in today. He directs self reflection from a place of selflessness and humility. Don’t worry about high brow language and complexities, he’s a true man of the people and explains the four virtues for any and all walks of life. Cheers, Ryan. Thank you for doing your part to improve humanity!

Ok, I’m done. My feelings do not inhibit my capacity for rational thinking. Lt. Col Vindman was a political hit job, nothing more. Does your rationale support holding our current President to the same standard to the previous? I have heard you lament on several occasions about our previous president but not once on our current president. That’s hypocritical and I now find your rationale suspect.

You lost credibility

Having Vindman on as a person having moral courage? Now I know you’re either ignorant or incredibly naive. Either way, your credibility is gone. That’s a shame. That man is a snake.

I am indebted to Ryan for this podcast as it was the spark that ignited an interest in me for Stoicism. I prefer to read source material before commentary, so this review has to do with the podcast itself and not any of Ryan’s books.
At its best this podcast is just downright motivational and has often fired me up to meet the day to the best of my abilities. At other times I have to turn it off because either the advertising, self promotion and or political commentary, or all three combined, are a bit of a buzz killer. Now, is that a problem with me or the podcast? Or a little of both? Sometimes I force myself to listen to those episodes I find objectionable because I find it interesting and instructive that Stoic values won’t prevent two individuals from arriving at different conclusions when it comes to politics.

Great content, but too many adverts

i have listened to this podcast for a few years now and really enjoyed it. ryan does a great job of applying early stoic philosophy to contemporary everyday life. unfortunately, the ads are a little much and they negate the desire for me to listen anymore. i completely understand they “keep the lights on,” but i would rather not listen at all then sit through through them and have protein bars sold to me for the first half of a 3-8 minute podcast. perhaps, exclusively include the adverts in the longer episodes?
as time has gone by ryan does seem to be becoming a bit of a name-dropping egoist which is interesting given the stoic view on ego and his personal book on the subject “ego is the enemy”. for the most part, his books are enjoyable and i highly recommend “obstacle is the way” as an intro into stoic ideas.
this is just honest feedback and not meant to reflect negatively on the actual content which is reliably quite good.

With our modern world almost encouraging the blaming and scapegoating of…well, anyone but ourselves…it's refreshing to hear a podcast with life tips about taking responsibility and sucking it up to push through life's inevitable challenges. I love Ryan's unique insight and tips for how to live a more stoic life, and actually find the joy in perseverance and cultivating a solid work ethic. What a concept.

I love Ryan’s thought process, his interviews are usually decent. However, he seems to be becoming a super capitalist more than a stoic. Ads in a 7 min podcast? Cmon. Plus the constant reminder that he is rich because listeners buy his books. We know you are an author! Relax Ryan. I can’t imagine Marcus Aurelius would have spent much time pitching his own writing. I just can’t listen anymore. It’s less stoicism and more promotion.

Ryan’s podcast has been an excellent guide since I started listening a year ago. Many of the decisions, both large and small, have been influenced by the great authors and stoic philosophers and I have yet to regret one. The short dailys are great little reminders to draw upon and the deep dives are very interesting.

I enjoy this podcast. Ryan provides practical and helpful tips to incorporate stoicism into daily life. I love his shorter podcasts the most.
He has become increasingly self promoting. I do not have a problem with that, he works hard and deserves to make a good living as an expert in this field. However, it can be too much at times and can frankly come across a little obnoxious. Episode 248 I actually had to turn off because of how grossed out I was by the self-promotion.
Also, he would benefit from having more diverse guests on his show. Unless I have missed them, he interviews mostly white males. One thing that sticks out to me as very problematic is his May 2020 podcast about imposter syndrome. Although he had some good thoughts, he said that he does not believe there is such thing as imposter syndrome. This is something that has been widely researched and has been shown to be a real phenomenon that exists more with women, and he is as white male is going to get on his platform and say it doesn’t exist?! Not acceptable and I really think he would benefit from having some female and other diverse experts on the show.

I’m a college football coach. At the beginning of 2020, my head coach took a new job at a major university and didn’t take me. I moved to the east coast from Hawai’i where I knew no one. I started my first job as a coordinator (a goal of mine for 10 years) only to have spring football cancelled. Since we couldn’t do our jobs I was called to work in a COVID testing center, so I did my part. Soon after, I got a divorce. My family couldn’t come see me because of the pandemic so I got divorced in total isolation. A few months after I contracted COVID. But, those were my shipwrecks. Because I worked in the COVID testing center I got vaccinated w the first wave, because I got divorced I was able to meet the love of my life, because of the isolation I could reflect and had new inspirations for my first year as a defensive coordinator. This podcast helped me through. Thank you. The obstacle is the way.

There are a lot of one star reviews because people are in such ideological bubbles they can no longer listen to an opposing idea without throwing a fit. I don’t fully agree with the host on every issue, but life is not about always agreeing & seeking out other opinions is valuable.

I was recently introduced to the Daily Stoic from a friend. Lately I’ve been struggling with my thoughts and emotions being all over the place. Dealing with my cancer and the worries that come with it, balancing family and work life, worries about IF I will have work here soon if we don’t get this COVID-19 under control, trying to find time to spend with my kids, and of course the current national and world issues that everyone is dealing has been rough to say the least.
Listening to this podcast has helped me sort of center and calm myself. It’s short enough to take in daily but still packed with rich and precious information that is really helping me prioritize my energy and thoughts on what I do have control over and focus on living in the moment. It is a journey and I am incredibly thankful for this bit of guidance.

Why? Don’t bring the mask politics into the show and implicitly call the people resisting as irresponsible. Now I see why this show is slowly dying.
Also, if you want a statue funded and call out tech junkies. I’m sure you could fund one yourself.
Don’t call out others if you aren’t willing to be held to the same standard.

We often ignore the psychological behaviors of ourselves and others and must understand these principles in order to really help people.
The stoic principles in this episode ring true. We must first seek to understand.
People like Fauci also fail to understand that psychology is a science that al of us are guilty of not understanding. Scientists in particular fail to deliver on the humanity of their facts. The media and Politicians may understand this well, and utilize psychology to gain our attention and tell us what to buy. We would all do better if we actually KNEW who out own neighbors were. I’m talking about the physical person living next door, not some hippie ideological “neighbor”.
By throwing facts at people they will dig in further into their beliefs- this episode is amazing at explaining how a religious passion can be overcome not with arguments but by understanding the epistemology of person.
Our job IS people. Every one of us.
